Dibdin writes top flight detective fiction, so I wanted to do something with his eyes as in “private eye.” The game here was to make his eye glow– like Jeff Chandler’s eyes in “Broken Arrow.” My strategy for this was to light everything in the room EXCEPT Dibdin… so all my lights are pointing away from him. The look that he’s giving me here, which may look like a classic, serious-writer glare is actually saying, “This is never going to work.”
